As part of the National Program for the Reduction of Smoking, the Ministry of Solidarity and Health and the National Agency “Public Health France” in partnership with the Health Insurance are launching the 4th edition of the “Tobacco Free Month” in November 2019 .

This is a national operation to raise awareness of the dangers of tobacco which, in an innovative way, offers smokers collectively quit smoking for 30 days (at the end of this period, withdrawal symptoms are drastically reduced and the chances of quitting permanently become very significant).

The operation includes media and non-media communication actions (TV, radio, press, internet and social networks) and local actions encouraging smokers to stop their consumption and supporting the motivation of ex-smokers (for example, possibility of follow an e-coaching program from an application that can be downloaded from the “tabac-info-service.fr” site).

Prevent and fight against smoking: the action of the National Military Social Security Fund

The CNMSS partner of “Moi (s) sans tabac” participates by relaying and promoting the ministerial mechanism “Mois Sans Tabac” to its military policyholders and their families. Various field actions are implemented within military units in order to provide information on the dangers of tobacco and on the various possibilities for quitting. Nicotine substitutes (patch, gum …) prescribed for smoking cessation are now reimbursed under health insurance up to 65%.

Tobacco: a major concern for France

  • Tobacco remains the leading cause of preventable death in France and the leading cause of cancer
  • It is one of the risk factors for cardiovascular disease. It is the main cause of chronic obstructive respiratory failure
  • Active smoking is considered to be responsible for 90% of lung cancer
  • Active or passive tobacco consumption is responsible for around 73,000 deaths per year, all pathologies combined, i.e. 200 deaths per day
  • One in two smokers will die of their tobacco use

If you are a smoker, you are invited to subscribe to Moi (s) sans tabac
