A decree published this weekend confirms the competences of the new corresponding pharmacist statute. The device already existed but in fact, few patients benefited from it.

“Before, you could renew a three-month prescription by troubleshooting, it was called the troubleshooting procedure, with the smallest box available. But in some cases, for example in the case of treatments for stomach acidity, the available boxes are only seven days long. This means that we could help out the patient but that within seven days he had to be able to see his doctor again ” explains Eric Myon, pharmacist and secretary general of the National Union of Pharmacies of France.

“We realized with the health crisis that we need to be much more responsive in the care process, we need to support our patients and sometimes to renew their treatments when they have no capacity. to see their doctor ” adds the pharmacist.

Reservations with some doctors

This device will still have to meet a few conditions: it is the doctor who remains the prescriber of the treatment and defines the role of the pharmacist. The latter will have to inform the doctor that he is a corresponding pharmacist.

Finally, the total duration of the prescription may not exceed one year. Insufficient limits for doctors who fear losing sight of certain patients.

Please note, to benefit from the device, it will be necessary to verify that your pharmacist and your doctor work within the same local health group.
