As of January 24, a total of 1,026,871 people had received an injection of the Covid vaccine in France. Achieving a million vaccinations by the end of January was the goal planned by the government.

According to calculations by the CovidTracker site, France has reached an average of more than 86,000 vaccinations per day.

As our graph shows, the number of vaccinations per day now far exceeds the number of new daily infections.

The possibility of re-containment

Over the last 7 days, Public Health France reported 11,155 hospitalizations of Covid patients, including 1,706 in intensive care. In the week of January 11 to 17, this figure rose to 9,631 people newly hospitalized, including 1,418 in intensive care.

The increase in these numbers is becoming worrying enough that the government is considering a third lockdown. It could be announced later this week, according to multiple media reports.
