In 24 hours, 21,703 people tested positive for Covid on January 7. 96,743 people were infected during the week of December 28, 2020 to January 3, 2021. In addition, the incidence rate reached 144 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants. These figures from Public Health France show that the epidemic is on the rise, as shown in our graph:

The test positivity rate also increased from 2.8% to 5.7% this week. However, the screening rate fell by 39%. This means that the number of positive tests per week is increasing, despite the decrease in the number of tests performed.

At the hospital, the situation seems more stable for the moment. The number of people hospitalized this week rose from 7,715 to 7,460. 1,135 people were in intensive care this week, against 1,118 the previous week.

45,500 people vaccinated

Since December 27, 45,500 people have been vaccinated against Covid, including 26,000 on January 7, as our graph shows:

According to the government, the number of people vaccinated should continue to increase every day.

At the press conference on January 7, the Minister of Health and the Prime Minister defended the government’s vaccination strategy. According to them, the number of vaccination centers should increase from 100 to 300 as of Monday.
