Curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. The prefecture of Reunion extended on February 23 to the whole island this measure to fight against the epidemic of covid introduced so far in seven municipalities. At issue: an increase in the incidence rate of the coronavirus in this French department of the Indian Ocean.

“Limit moments of conviviality at night”

The curfew at 10 p.m. helps preserve the daily life of Reunion Islanders, while avoiding the mixing of populations in the evening “ indicates the prefecture in a press release.

This measure aims to limit the movement of people between the municipalities and moments of conviviality at night, not very conducive to compliance with barrier gestures “ she adds again.

100 cases per 100,000 inhabitants

The curfew in place since February 12 in four municipalities in the department had already been extended by the prefecture to three additional municipalities on February 18. But now, “the incidence rate is now very close to 100 per 100,000 inhabitants“, according to the press release.

This departmental curfew is established for a period of 15 days, in order to curb viral circulation. As in mainland France, travel is authorized upon presentation of a certificate for compelling reasons such as business travel, medical travel or even transit for long-distance travel.

8 p.m. or 6 p.m. if the situation worsens

The day before this decision, the Overseas Minister Sébastien Lecornu had asked the prefect of Reunion, Jacques Billant, on Twitter about him “make proposals to strengthen the protection of Reunion Islanders against the circulation of covid-19 “.

A new point must be made at the end of the week and if the incidence rate increases further and exceeds the mark of 125 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, the prefect could decide to lower the curfew to 8 p.m. or 6 p.m.
